Midland, Mich. - Grand Valley State women's soccer team recorded its second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win on Friday (Sept. 10) afternoon and claimed its four straight shutout victory. The Lakers defeated the Timberwolves of Northwood 5-0, in Midland, Mich., advancing their record to 4-0, 2-0 GLIAC. GVSU improve on its unbeaten streak to 63 regular season games and 41 unbeaten conference matches dating back to the 2006 season.

"Today we played a very determined and improved Northwood team that came up in both halves with energy and created one or two more opportunities to score. I was extremely happy with our energy as well as in the beginning of the game and how opportunistic we were with all three goals scored in the first half," said head coach David DiIanni. "Our defenders and goalkeepers did a good job once again of keeping a clean sheet and we got everyone on our roster valuable playing time in meanwhile."

The Lakers recorded their first goal of the match at 16:36 when sophomore forward Ashley Botts notched her third goal of the year. Ten minutes later during the 26th minute, senior Jaleen Dingledine took a shot hitting it off of the left post knocking it in. GVSU scored one more time before half at the 39:56 mark. Sophomore Maria Brown recorded her first of two goals in the match, when she took a shot from 20 yards out from an Erin Mruz assist, giving Grand Valley State a 3-0 lead at half.

During the second half of play, Brown scored her second goal during the 56th minute and Erin Mruz claimed her second assist. Mruz took a free kick hitting the crossbar, while Brown followed it and placed it in the back of the net. Then at 86:39, freshman Taylor Callen recorded her first goal in a Laker uniform. Callen was step up by teammates Kristen Eible and Erin Hilbert after they crossed it over from the right side. Callen then place the ball in the back of the net from 15 yards out, giving GVSU the 5-0 win.

Grand Valley State outshot Northwood by a 14-8 margin, including a 10-7 advantage on shots on goal. Keeper Chelsea Parise snatched seven saves in the match and improved her record to 4-0. GVSU will travel to Saginaw on Sunday (Sept. 12) to play GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State at 12:00 p.m.
