Lakers Fall At Michigan State, 68-43, In Women's Basketball Exhibition Game

East Lansing, Mich. - Grand Valley State dropped a 68-43 decision at Michigan State in exhibition women's basketball Sunday afternoon in East Lansing. GVSU will open the regular season next Friday (Nov. 12) at Urbana. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.

Michigan State built a 45-19 halftime lead behind a torrid shooting display. The Spartans shot 73.9 percent from the floor (17-23) and hit 71.4 percent of their three-point attempts (5-7) in the first half. GVSU hit just 30.4 percent from the floor (7-23) in the opening 20 minutes, with four of the Lakers' seven made buckets coming from sophomore Briauna Taylor. However, Grand Valley State outscored the Spartans in the final 20 minutes (24-23), holding MSU to 24.0 percent shooting from the floor. Grand Valley State hit 42.9 percent from the floor (9-21) in second stanza. Michigan State held a 17-5 scoring advantage from the free throw line.

Sophomore Briauna Taylor led GVSU with a game-high 21 points, while Brittany Taylor added six points. Senior Elizabeth Van Tiflin added five points and pulled down five rebounds. Jasmine Padin and Lauren Stodola each dished out three assists.
