No. 4 Lakers Dominated Northwood 10-0 in Soccer Action

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State's No. 4 women's soccer team scored eight first half goals to claim the 10-0 victory over Northwood on Friday (Oct. 8) evening. The Lakers recorded their 10th shutout win and advanced their record to 10-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action. GVSU will be wearing throwback jerseys for the 50th anniversary of Grand Valley State University on Sunday and will face conference rival Saginaw Valley State at 12:00 p.m.

The Lakers recorded six goals in the first 20 minutes of play, as sophomore Kayla Addison notched back-to-back goals. Addison scored her first goal at the 9:19 mark after she rebounded her own shot and knocked it in from 12 yards out. Then three minutes she recorded her team-high eighth goal of the year after she received a pass from Erin Mruz. Just two minutes later at 14:41, sophomore forward Ashley Botts notched her fifth goal of the year, giving GVSU a 3-0 lead.

During the 16th minute, senior Jaleen Dingledine was set up by teammates Erin Hilbert and Mruz. Dingledine knocked it in from inside the box, scoring her sixth goal of the year. Defender Kayla Klosterman notched the Lakers their fifth goal at the 19:48 mark, followed by a goal from Mruz a minute later, giving Grand Valley State a 6-0 lead. GVSU then scored two more goals in the first half from Maria Brown and Dingledine, putting the Lakers up 8-0 at half.

The Lakers opened second half of action with a goal at the 58:33 mark. Hilbert received a cross from Dingledine on the right side and kicked it in from inside the box. GVSU's Jessica Trost notched her first goal of the year during the 67th minute after freshman Kelsey Fiscus passed the ball over from the right. Trost took a shot from the left side and then placed the ball in the upper right corner of the net, giving the Lakers a 10-0 win.

GVSU held the Timberwolves to just five shots, including three shots on goal, while the Lakers took 29 shots and placed 19 on frame. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise recorded a save, while backup keeper Abbey Miller notched two.
