GVSU Claims GLIAC Tournament Title after Defeating Northwood 5-1

Midland, Mich. - The top-seed Grand Valley State's women's tennis team notched the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship after defeating Northwood 5-1 on Sunday morning (Oct. 24). The Lakers remain unbeaten on the year with the win and advance their record to 15-0 overall.

GVSU picked up two wins in the doubles competition as the No. 1 duo of Darylann Trout and Chelsea Johnston won 8-1 and the No. 3 pair of Lexi Rice and Jackie Shipman claimed the victory 8-2. In singles competition Niki Shipman won 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, while Trout won at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-1) and Katelyn Schaffer at No. 6 (6-4, 6-3).
