Pair of Headers Give #5 Lakers 2-0 Win

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State shut out its third opponent on Sunday, Sept. 6, defeating Quincy 2-0. Goalkeeper Chelsea Parise picked up her third shutout and recorded her third win this season. GVSU will play its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match against conference rival Ferris State on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 12:00 p.m. in its third straight home match.

After a scoreless first half Sunday afternoon, midfielder Kristen Eible scored her first goal of the season after she headed the ball through the back of the net off of a corner kick from sophomore Erin Mruz during the 57th minute. At the 62:54 mark, forward Alyssa Mira found freshman Erin Hilbert where she headed in the second goal to give the Lakers a 2-0 win.

Grand Valley State outshot the Lady Hawks by a 23-8 margin, including a 12-5 edge in shots on goal. Parise recorded five saves in the 90 minutes of play. GVSU advances its record to 3-0-1 on the season while Quincy falls to 2-2.
