Lakers Place Third at Northwood Invitational

Final Results

Midland, Mich. - Grand Valley State played much better on Saturday afternoon (April 11) at the Northwood Invitational and finished in third place, one stroke behind Wayne State. The Lakers followed an opening round 308 with a 298 on Saturday for an overall team score of 606.

Ferris State took home the team title with a score of 593, finishing 12 strokes ahead of Wayne State (605). The Lakers placed third, while Ashland (610), Findlay (614), and Saginaw Valley State (626) rounded out the top half dozen schools.

Junior Matt Malloure finished in a tie for second place after a second round 72, good for even par. He combined that with an opening day 74 for a 146, as he tied with Pat Steffes of Ferris State. Junior Danny Vaughan notched consecutive rounds of 76 for a 152, as he finished in 14th place.

Senior Matt Johnson (81-74) and freshman Ben Brooks (77-78) tied for 19th place with 155, while newcomer Nick Gunthorpe used a second day score of 76 for a 162, placing him 44th.

GVSU competes at the Great Lakes Regional Invitational next weekend (April 19-20).
