Grand Valley State men's golf team is in third place after day one of the Northwood Invitational in Midland, Mich. The Lakers shot a team score of 308 on Friday (April 10), placing them behind Wayne State and Ferris State.
Wayne State leads after the opening day with a 295, while Ferris State is close behind at 298. GVSU (308), Findlay (309), and Ashland (310) round out the top five schools and are all within two shots of each other.
Junior Matt Malloure led the Lakers with an opening day 74 after shooting consecutive rounds of 37. He sits alone in seventh place. Fellow junior Danny Vaughan is tied for ninth after his round of 76 (39-37). Freshman Ben Brooks is one stroke back and tied for 15th with a 77 (37-40).
Senior Matt Johnson shot an opening day 81 (40-41), while freshman Nick Gunthorpe notched back-to-back 43's for an 86.
Play at the Northwood Invitational will conclude on Saturday (April 11).
