Grand Valley State kicked off the spring section of its season with a 9-0 win over Kalamazoo College on Saturday. The Lakers took every set during singles play for the victory.
Audrey Koopsen took the point at first singles (6-0, 6-4) and Maria Gassanova followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles. Katelyn Schaffer and Chelsea Johnston took third and fourth singles, respectively. Schaffer won 6-2, 6-0 and Johnston took her point 6-0, 6-2. Darylann Trout's 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles earned GVSU a point and Jackie Shipman's 6-3, 6-2 win in the sixth spot closed out singles play.
Koopsen and Gassanova teamed up at first doubles to win 8-1 and Johnston and Trout combined for an 8-1 win at second doubles. In the third spot, Schaffer joined Jaime Oppenlander to win 8-3.
Grand Valley State has yet to lose a match at third, fifth or sixth singles, posting a perfect 11-0 record at each spot. Schaffer has posted an overall record of 11-1, including an 11-0 mark in dual play. Shipman and Trout have both posted perfect records in dual play, as well, going 11-0 and 12-0, respectively. Trout has won 11 matches in a row and has an overall record of 14-1.
