Lake Superior State (8-5 overall, 5-3 GLIAC) shot the lights out in the opening half, outscoring GVSU, 42-22, in the first 20 minutes. GVSU cut the lead to 23-10 on a jumper by sophomore Justin Ringler, but Lake Superior State continued to scorch the nets with its hot shooting. In the second half, Grand Valley State would chip away at the LSSU lead and cut the score to 64-54 with 5:17 remaining with an old-fashioned three-point play from freshman guard Alvin Storrs. GVSU was able to get the lead within single digits when senior Bobby Tiernan hit a jumper with 1:42 left in the game to make the score, 73-64. However, Lake Superior State closed the game by scoring six of the final eight points.
