Kristina Nasturzio recorded three saves and notched her second shutout of the young season in a 2-0 win over Quincy on Friday night. Erin Mruz and Ashley Elsass both scored goals for the No. 1 Lakers in the win. Grand Valley State (3-0-0) will now travel to St. Louis, Mo. for a match against Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, Sept. 7.
The Lakers got on the scoreboard first when Mruz put a shot into the right corner of the net from 24 yards out at the 23:19 mark. The goal was her second of the season. Amber Bloem notched an assist on the goal, her first point of the season. Elsass also picked up a helper on the goal. The Lakers put four shots on goal in the first half, while the GVSU defense kept the Lady Hawks from putting one on frame.
Elsass scored a goal of her own, her second of the season, just 2:04 later. The senior forward corraled a loose ball off of a rebound and put it past Lady Hawks' keeper Toni Eye for a 2-0 GVSU lead. Eye finished the match with seven saves, while Nasturzio stopped three for the Lakers. She was tested heavily in the second half, picking up all three saves in the second 45 minutes. Nasturzio has posted a shut out streak of 255:12 to start the season. This is the second season in a row that the Lakers have posted three shutouts to begin the year.
