GVSU Black Squad Finishes Second At The Arendsen Golf Tournament

Allendale, Mich. - Danny Vaughan led the Grand Valley State Black team to a three-round total of 878 and a second place finish at The Arendsen Golf Tournament hosted by Grand Valley State and the Meadows Golf Course. Indianapolis finished first (872), followed by GVSU Black (878), Ferris State (880) and GVSU Blue (884).

Vaughan tallied back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 to force a three-way tie with Justin Hueber (Indianpolis) and Eric Lilleboe (Ferris State) after regulation. Hueber birdied the first playoff hole (#18), while Vaughan and Lilleboe notched pars. Vaughan carded a 70 for the final round and finished with a three-under par 213. Nick Gunthorpe finished tied for eighth with a 220, while Jamie Clark carded a 221 to finish in a tie for 11th. Nick Blake tied for 34th (230) and Tony Mango finished 39th with a 231.

"I really liked the way that the black team competed for all 54 holes," said assistant coach Byde Kephart who coached the black team. "The kids showed a great deal of resolve and tied for the low team round with a final 18 288."

The GVSU Blue team finished fourth with a team scored of 884. Matt Malloure finished tied for eighth with a 220, while freshman Ben Brooks shot a final round 69 for a 54-hole total of 222 (T-13th). Tyler Hering finished tied for 17th with a 223, Matt Johnson tied for 19th (225) and Josh Burt tied for 27th (228).
