GVSU Finishes Third at Great Lakes Fall Regional

Grand Haven, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's golf team finished third at the Great Lakes Fall Regional on Sunday and Monday (Sept. 21-22), hosted at HawksHead Golf Course in South Haven, Mich. GVSU totaled a score of 577, good for +1, finishing three strokes behind Ferris State, which totaled a 2-under, 574. Indianapolis registered a score of 550, putting the Greyhounds at -26 for the tournament.

Grand Valley State sat in fourth place after Sunday's opening round of 285, following with a 292 on Monday. The Lakers edged out Drury (579, +3), Ashland (580, +4), and Northern Kentucky (581, +5).

Junior Matt Malloure was GVSU's top finisher with a tie for eighth place, tallying rounds of 68-72 for a 4-under, 140. Senior Tyler Hering was also under par, firing a 1-under, 143 (72-71), finishing tied for 12th. Senior Matt Johnson tied for 24th with a 146 (70-76).

Freshman Ben Brooks was tied for 35th with a 148 (75-73) and junior Josh Burt was tied for 68th with a 153 (75-78).

Aaron Monson of Indianapolis was the medalist, as he shot an 11-under, 133 (67-66).

Low scores were common throughout the tournament, as the 21 teams combined for 19 eagles and 540 birdies.

The Lakers host the Grand Valley State Invitational next Sunday and Monday (Sept. 28-29).
