Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State University used dominant pitching to sweep Lake Superior State on Sunday, April 20, giving up just one run through 12 innings. Lori Andjelich was perfect in the four innings she threw in game one, an 8-0 GVSU victory, and Cole allowed only one run in a 3-1 game two win. The No. 15 Lakers are now 24-11 (9-5 GLIAC) on the season.

Game one took just five innings, with Andjelich (10-6) did not put any runners on base through four innings of work. She struck out three and received more than enough run support. Kristin Moleski was 2-2 with a home run, a triple and a walk. She finished the game with three runs batted in and another two scored. GVSU scored eight runs on 10 hits while Lake Superior notched two hits and no runs. The two hits came against Lauren Rohan in the fifth inning.

Since the double-header was originally scheduled to be played at Lake Superior State, LSSU was the home team in the scorebook. It did not seem to bother GVSU, who promptly scored two runs in the top of the first. Sarah Holland doubled to lead off the inning and then Nichole Woityra sacrificed her to third. In the next at-bat, Moleski homered to left-center field to put GVSU up 2-0.

Grand Valley batted around in the second inning, with five runs on seven hits. Lisa Preuss doubled to start the inning and then scored on an error that brought Becky Rudenga to third. Karen Walters brought Rudenga home on a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-0. Woityra hit a double down the left-field line and scored on a triple by Moleski. After a pitching change, Elizabeth Smith singled to score another run and then scored on a single by Kronberg to make it 7-0 before the inning ended.

The last run of the game came in the third when Woityra walked and then came home on a bases-loaded walk by Smith. With the score 8-0, both pitchers kept the game scoreless until the fifth inning. Rohan came in for Andjelich and closed the fifth inning to end the game.

In game two, Cole gave up one run on four hits while striking out two in seven innings of work. The Laker bats tallied seven hits and three runs, led by Moleski's 2-3 game with one run scored.

Neither team found the scoreboard until the fifth inning, when GVSU was finally able to take the lead. Breanne Kronberg doubled to center field with one out to start the scoring. Lesley Bates pinch ran for her and advanced to third on a fly out by Lisa Preuss. A single by Rudenga sent her home and gave Grand Valley a 1-0 lead. Stephanee Schrader doubled to right-center in the next at-bat scored Rudenga to make it 2-0. Grand Valley State scored their third run in the sixth inning when Moleski scored after a dropped fly ball. Lake Superior scored one in the seventh, but GVSU held on for a 3-1 win.
