#4 Grand Valley State notched a twinbill sweep over Upper Iowa Sunday afternoon in Quincy, Ill. GVSU won game one by a 7-2 score, followed by a 12-0 nine-inning win in game two. GVSU is scheduled to play at Eastern Michigan Tuesday at 3 p.m.
GVSU opened game one with five runs in the bottom of the first. The Lakers added single runs in the fourth and the sixth to post a 7-2 win. Sophomore Danny Richard picked up the win, yielding just one run on five hits in six innings of work. Richard struck out six and walked just one. LF Casey Robrahn went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while 2B Josh Hillyard was 3-for-4 with double and three runs scored.
Four Laker pitchers combined for the shutout in game two. Andre Benjamin started and got the win. Benjamin struck out seven and yielded just three hits in five innings of work. Brad Raj pitched two hitless innings, followed by an inning of work by Eric Snyder and David Bowman.
RF Derek Hinke was 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Hinke drove in three runs with a 3-run HR. Cory Maguire was 3-for-3 with a single, double and thriple, while Pat Radde, Matt Nickels and Josh Hillyard each tallied two hits.
