Lakers Shut Out Ferris State 9-0

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won its fourth straight match to start the season, defeating Ferris State 9-0 on Friday, Oct. 3. GVSU swept the match, losing just one set in singles play and taking all three doubles spots. GVSU's next match is Wednesday, Oct. 9 against perennial GLIAC powerhouse Northwood. The match is in Allendale and is slated to start at 3 p.m.

Audrey Koopsen played at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, teaming up with Maria Gassanova. Gassanova took the No. 2 singles spot, as well, advancing her perfect record to 5-0 overall. Katelyn Schaffer won her No. 3 singles match by the score of 6-0, 6-2, and then joined Jackie Shipman to win at No. 3 doubles 8-1. Shipman played at sixth singles and won 6-3, 6-1. Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout played fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Johnston won 6-4, 6-1 and Trout took her match 6-2, 6-1. They won their No. 2 doubles match by the final score of 8-2.

GVSU is now 23-1 in dual meet singles play for a winning percentage of .958. In doubles play at dual meets, the Lakers are 9-3 overall. Grand Valley State has not lost from No. 2 to No. 6 singles.
