Allendale, Mich. - Katy Tafler broke the GLIAC record for career goals in a 10-0 win over Northwood on Friday, Oct. 3. The senior forward scored the 103rd goal of her career in the 56th minute to break Kristy Richie's (Ashland) record of 102. Eight different players scored for the No. 1 Lakers in the win. GVSU (11-0, 6-0 GLIAC) will take on Saginaw Valley State at 12 noon on Sunday.

Tafler added another goal later in the match, her team-leading 10th of the season. Lindsey Marlow scored her first, and later her second, goal as a Laker in the winning effort. The Laker defense continued its stellar play, holding the Timberwolves to just one shot on goal, while the GVSU offense took 25 of their own. Kristina Nasturzio made one save to extend her shutout streak to 560:55 over a span of seven games.

Kristen Eible started the scoring at the 7:15 mark. Ashley Elsass drove in from the left side and played a ball across the box. Eible took the ball at the right post and put it in the opposite corner to make the score 1-0. Although GVSU outshut the Timberwolves 12-2 in the first half, the Lakers only scored one more goal in the first period. Emily Pierce started in goal for the Wolves and made 11 saves on 15 shots in the first 55:22, including several impressive stops on Tafler. The second goal was scored in the 28th minute when Megan Brown played a ball through for Irie Dennis. Dennis and Elsass took a two-on-one against Pierce and Dennis touched the ball over to Elsass who put it in the open net.

Dennis scored a goal of her own, her sixth of the season, just 5:53 into the second half, the first goal of an eight-goal outburst. Dennis took a the ball at midfield and outran everyone to the goal. Her initial shot was saved by Pierce, but she put the rebound in the back of the net for a 3-0 GVSU lead. Tafler broke the GLIAC record just 4:27 later. Eible played a ball through the middle to the top of the 18-yard box that Tafler took into a one-on-one with Pierce. The shot to the right side of the net made it 4-0 and put Tafler first in the GLIAC record books. The goal was the last allowed by Pierce, as she was replaced by Patricia Lamberti. Nasturzio also came out of the game, replaced by Sam DeNio, who gave the Lakers more than 24 scoreless minutes.

Tafler scored again in the 66th minute. After taking a feed from Brown, Tafler carried the ball inside the 18-yard box and blasted a shot that went off the hands of Lamberti and into the right side of the net. The goal was her 10th of the season and made the score 5-0 in favor of GVSU. Jamie Radley scored her first goal of the season only 1:18 after Tafler's second goal of the match. Elsass put a shot off the right goal post. The rebound went directly to Radler, who put it in the open net. Katie Johnson scored the third GVSU goal in a span of 4:16 when she touched in a cross from Elsass right in front of the net. The goal was Johnson's first of the season and made it 7-0 GVSU.

The final three goals were also scored quickly, coming in a span of 4:24. At the 82:03 mark, Marlow scored her first goal of the season when Jaleen Dingledine played a ball that eluded Lamberti across the goal mouth. Marlow took the ball at the left post and scored uncontested. Dingledine scored a goal 3:26 after that when she dribbled toward the 18-yard box on the right side. Once she got in the box, she lofted a shot that went over the outstretched hands of Lamberti and into the top of the net. Marlow scored the final goal of the match at the 86:27 mark. Radley played a ball that sprung Dingledine on the right side. Dingledine drove deep into the NU zone and played a ball to Marlow who was at the left post again. Marlow's goal was the second of her career as a Laker and made the score 10-0, which was the final.
