Grand Valley State won nine-of-13 events and cruised to a 143-87 victory over Calvin College Friday night at the GVSU Pool. GVSU will compete at Indianapolis on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Lakers opened with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:37.40), followed by a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1000 free. Kyle Burgher touched first in the 1000 (10:19.97), followed by Ryan Kraai (10:36.08) and Mitch Knoll (10:47.43). Matt Witkowski led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free, touching in 1:45.16. Jeff Pauza finished second (1:48.22) and Justin Pattermann third (1:49.87). Evan Kobes finished first in the 50 free (21.85) and Scott Cameron was second (23.59). Jordan Schrotenboer touched in a time of 2:02.13 to take top honors. Jimmy Donahue came in second with a time of 2:06.16.
Evan Betts recorded a pair of first place finishes on the 1 and 3-meter diving board. Betts tallied a 282.75 on the 1-meter and a 291.15 on the 3-meter. Pattermann added a first-place finish in the 100 free (49.61), while Corey Fellows was second (50.43).Pauza and Phil Watkins finished first and second in the 100 back. Pauza touched in 55.05, while Watkins finished in 56.61. Aaron Phillippe claimed second in the 500 free (5:03.26), followed by Kraai in third (5:12.01). The Lakers did not score the final two events.
