Grand Valley State dropped a 124-107 decision at Wayne State in men's swimming and diving. GVSU will return to the pool Friday with a home dual versus Calvin College at 6 p.m. GVSU will be at Indianapolis Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Lakers opened strong, winning the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:28.88, while also finishing third (3:40.55). Jeff Pauza won the 1000 free (9:55.54), Jordan Schrotenboer claimed top honors in the 200 free (1:44.64), while Evan Kobes was second in te 50 free (22.13). Justin Pattermann finished second in the 200 IM (1:56.45), while Matt Witkowski was third (1:57.07). Phil Watkins (1:58.96) finished second in the 200 fly and Pattermann was third (2:00.08). Witkowski added a second-place finish in the 100 free (48.11) and Schrotenboer claimed second in the 200 back (1:59.62). In addition to his win in the 1000 free, Pauza came in second in the 500 free (4:49.07). Hans Hill finished second in the 200 breast (2:11.50). Evan Betts and Patrick VanDommelen led a 1-2 finish on both the 1 and 3-meter board. The Lakers closed with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:11.49).
