Allendale, Mich. - Despite a balanced offense that saw three Lakers score in double figures, Grand Valley State found themselves on the losing end of a 62-59 final score against Ferris State. Erin Cyplik finished the game with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), while Kim Wyngaard and Crystal Zick added 15 and 11 points, respectively. The loss was just the second conference loss all season for the Lakers, who are now 9-6 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC. Their next game is on Thursday, Jan. 17 against Mercyhurst.

Another long ball, this one from Elizabeth Van Tiflin, tied the game at 12-12 at the 13:14 mark. After that point, Ferris went on a 9-0 run to make the score 21-12 before GVSU's next basket.

Zick scored the game's next four points, followed by a free throw from Wyngaard, to cut the lead to four points. A layup by Lauren Buresh cut the lead to three, 22-19, but the next four points went to FSU to make the score 26-22. Wyngaard hit another free throw and then Ferris scored the last four points to make the score 30-23 at the half.

Once again, the teams started the half by exchanging three pointers. Thelen made another one, followed by a long ball from Jocelyn Ingram. Ferris State pushed the lead to double figures at the 18:17 mark of the second half, but Cyplik completed a three-point play to bring the Lakers to within eight. With the score 40-31 in favor of the Bulldogs, Wyngaard hit three out of the next four baskets, with the other one courtesy of Cyplik, to make the score 40-39 with 11 minutes remaining.

The score was tied 42-42 after Zick made a layup with 9:32 left. The Lakers took their first lead of the second half when Nicole Carr made a layup and the ensuing free throw after a foul by Ashley Fleming. Back-to-back layups by Wyngaard and Buresh gave GVSU their biggest lead of the second half, 59-54 with 2:23 left in the game. Rachel Folcik made two free throws with 36 seconds left to give Ferris State the lead back and Grand Valley could not overcome that last deficit, falling by a final score of 62-59.
