GVSU Records Wins Over Coe And Sacred Heart

The GVSU women's tennis teams tallied two wins on Tuesday, defeating Coe College by a 7-2 count and Sacred Heart, 6-3. The Lakers improve their record to 15-3 on the season and have two matches remaining on their Spring Break trip in Orlando, Fla.

The Lakers started the day with a victory over Coe, as they took five of six singles matchups and two of three in doubles play. Lindsay Grimmer fell in the top singles slot, 6-4, 6-3. The remaining Lakers were all victorious in singles matches. Jenna Killips blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, while McCall Monte downed Coe's Katie Yakes, 6-2, 6-2. Lindsay Grimmer and Emily Zeller picked up an 8-4 win in the top doubles slot while the tandem of Jenna Killips and Whitney Bindus recorded an 8-2 win. Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte fell for GVSU, 8-6.

Grand Valley State's second match was much of the same as the Lakers took four of six in singles play and two of three in doubles action over the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Audrey Koopsen was victorious by a 6-0, 6-4 count in the No. 3 singles slot, while freshman Whitney Bindus recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win. Lindsay Grimmer and Emily Zellner each fell for Grand Valley. The two bounced back in doubles however, as the team of Grimmer and Zellner defeated Pam Pillo and Nocole Betz, 8-5. Koopsen and Monte got in the win column for the day, winning 8-6. Jenna Killips and Jaime Oppenlander fell in the third doubles slot by an 8-6 margin.
