#2 Grand Valley State Claims 70-51 Win At Indianapolis

Indianapolis - Grand Valley State held Indianapolis scoreless for over 11 minutes in the second half Friday night en route to an impressive 70-51 victory. GVSU, off to the best start in Laker men's basketball history (13-0), will be at Tiffin Sunday at 4 p.m.

The Lakers slowly built a seven-point lead through the opening minutes, but Indianapolis would battle to even it at 21-21, marking the game's lone tie. Up by a single point with 5:51 remaining in the first half, Grand Valley rolled off eight straight to build a 35-27 lead going into the locker room.

Senior center Callistus Eziukwu scored on a layp at the 18:39 mark of the second half to give the Lakers a 40-29 lead. However, six straight points by the Greyhounds cut the Laker lead to five (40-35) with 16:09 remaining. GVSU led by eight (47-39) after Joel Whymer hit a three-pointer at the 13:29 mark, but Indy answered with a three of its own with 13:02 left to cut the lead back to five (47-42). That was the last basket Indianapolis would score until a layup with 1:51 left in the game and GVSU leading 64-46. The Lakers went on a 17-2 run over the 13 minute span, with UI's only points coming on a pair of free throws until its bucket.The Greyhounds were 0-for-13 from the field during that stretech and Grand Valley State led by as many as 20 points in the second half.

Senior Nick Freer led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Callistus Eziukwu tallied 14 points and nine rebounds, while Justin Ringler added 14 points and five rebounds for the Lakers. GVSU hit 29-of-56 shots from the floor (51.8%) and 9-of-11 free throws (81.8%). The Lakers held a 38-27 rebounding advantage and limited UI to 16-for-54 shooting from the floor (29.6%).
