Grand Valley State ended the game with a 13-0 scoring run over the final 6:13 and went on to claim a 62-49 victory over St. Joseph's College saturday afternoon. GVSU will host Marygrove College Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
Justin Ringler scored a layup at the 5:34 mark to give GVSU a 51-49 lead, then added a pair of free throws to give the Lakers a 53-49 lead. David Thompson added a layup and Ringler hit two more free throws to up the Laker lead to 57-49. Two more free throws by Pete Trammell, a layup from Jason Jamerson and another Trammell free throw concluded the 13-0 scoring run.
The Pumas led by as many as seven (13-6) in the first half, while GVSU built a 27-22 lead with 2:54 left in the opening half. St. Joseph's scored the final five point of the first half to tie the score, 27-27, after 20 minutes of action.
Senior center Callistus Eziukwu recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Justin Ringler added 16 points. Pete Trammell chipped in eight points and four assists. Jason Jamerson added four points and 10 rebounds. GVSU held SJC to just 37.0 percent shooting from the floor (20-54). The Lakers held a 45-30 rebounding advantage.
