Grand Valley State dominated a triangular meet with Calvin College and Wheaton College Saturday. GVSU defeated Calvin 206-80 and Wheaton 182-100 to improve to 2-1 on the year. The Lakers will next compete at the Doug Coers Invite Nov. 16-17 at Ball State.
In the freestyle events, Jeff Pauza won the 1000 free (9:57.74), while Matt Witkowski (1:44.05) and Kyle Burgher (1:47.85) finished 1-2 in the 200 free. Witkowski added another first in the 100 free (47.19) and Burgher won the 500 free (4:56.63) followed by Aaron Phillippe's third-place finish (5:07.04). Aaron Renton led a 2-3-4 finish in the 50 free with a 22.09. Evan Kobes finished third (22.17) and Phillippe fourth (23.05).
Hans Hill captured a pair of first-place finishes in the breaststroke events. Hill won the 100 in a time of 1:00.24 and the 200 in 2:15.01. Phillip Kaseska was second in the 200 breast (2:16.70) and third in the 100 (1:02.76). Jordan Schrotenboer added a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 back (53.30) and 200 back (1:57.28). Jeff Pauza was second in the 200 back (1:59.25) and Paul Tansey third in the 100 back (57.56). Justin Pattermann turned in a first-place swim in the 100 butterfly (52.38), while Phil Watkins was second in both the 100 fly (54.38) and 200 fly (2:03.98). Evan Betts claimed first-place finishes in both 1-meter (282.75) and 3-meter diving (299.40) events. Patrick VanDommelen added a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-meter (228.05) and 3-meter (224.25). GVSU also won the 200 medley relay (1:36.90).
