Final Stats

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Jason Jamerson scored a team-high 20 points and Grand Valley State University shot a record-setting 64.7 percent from three-point range en route to a 76-72 victory over Stonehill College. The #3 Lakers, who went 11-of-17 from long range, will attempt to earn the Group Dedication Trophy when they take on Barry University in the Disney Div. II Tip-Off finale at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Grand Valley State received contributions from numerous sources, including 18 points from Pete Trammell, just one day off of a 28-point explosion against Columbus State. David Thompson and Callistus Eziukwu both scored in double-digits, as well, finishing with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Eziukwu added four rebounds, five assists and three blocks in a balanced effort. Nick Smith paced the Stonehill offense, finishing the game with 21 points and a perfect shooting day from the field.

Early on, the game was not as close as when it ended. GVSU led by as many as 12 points in the first half, up 33-21 with five and a half minutes remaining in the first stanza. The Skyhawks charged back, scoring 14 of the last 19 points in the first half to close the gap to 38-35 heading into the locker rooms.

Stonehill continued their strong play in the second half, jumping out to their first lead of the game, 43-42, within 2:19 of halftime. The game stayed close until the Lakers ran off a 12-point streak, giving them an 11-point lead, 61-50, with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.

It looked like Grand Valley would be able to cruise to a victory, leading by 12 (72-60) with 4:05 remaining in the contest, but Stonehill went on one final run, scoring 12 of the next 14 points to cut the Lakers' lead to just two points. With just 37 seconds left, Eziukwu committed a turnover, but the Skyhawks were unable to convert, and Trammell buried to free throws to give GVSU their final margin of victory, 76-72.

The Lakers are now 2-0 on the season and play again on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against Barry University.
