#13 Grand Valley State dropped a 69-60 decision at Gannon in a GLIAC crossover Monday night. The Lakers fall to 14-4 overall and 7-2 in the GLIAC, while the Golden Knights improve to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in GLIAC play. Grand Valley will return home for two GLIAC contests this week. GVSU will host Wayne State on Thursday, Jan. 25 at 6:00 p.m. and Ashland on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1:00 p.m.
Grand Valley jumped out to a 13-8 lead as senior guard Taushauna Churchwell hit two three-pointers and senior guard Erika Ryskamp converted on a three-point play. Gannon went on a 9-0 run to take a four point lead and pushed it to nine points with 3:12 left in the first half. Churchwell connected on a layup with 17 seconds left to cut the Golden Knight lead to, 30-26, at halftime.
Gannon opened the second half scoring the first nine out of eleven points to jump out to a 39-28 lead at the 17:08 mark. GVSU cut the lead to eight points, 47-39, on a free throw by Ryskamp, but Gannon scored the next 11 points to take its largest lead of the game, 58-39 with 7:50 left in the game. A jumper by senior center Julia Braseth cut the lead to eight points, but there was just 1:30 remaining in the game.
Senior guard Taushauna Churchwell led the Lakers with 16 points and three rebounds, while senior guard Erika Ryskamp added 14 points, four steals, and two assists. Senior center Julia Braseth recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals and junior guard Crystal Zick had nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Sophomore guard Jenny Steffen posted six points and three rebounds.
