The #8-ranked Laker men's basketball squad (16-2, 7-2 GLIAC) continued its impressive defensive run Monday night in Erie, Pa. as they claimed a 61-49 road victory over the Gannon Golden Knights (6-11, 2-7 GLIAC). GVSU's stifling defense held Gannon to just 28.1 percent from the field and allowed less than 52 points for the seventh consecutive game as they won their 10th straight contest. Jason Jamerson was one of four players in double figures as he led the team with 12 points. GVSU will host Wayne State on Thursday, Jan. 25 in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena at 8 pm. The game will be televised on Comcast Local.

The Lakers answered with a 14-4 run that flipped the five point advantage in their favor at 19-14 with 11 minutes to play in the half. GVSU upped its lead to nine before the end of the half as senior sixth man, Kyle Carhart, went hard to the hole and connected on a layup and was fouled. Carhart knocked down the free throw to give GVSU a 31-22 halftime lead.
Junior center Callistus Eziukwu led the squad in the first half with six points, two blocks, and three steals. Carhart's three-point play was part of his eight first half points as the guard also dished out three assists.
Gannon hung with the Lakers through the first nine minutes of the second half as GVSU was unable to lengthen its lead past 11. A 7-0 run that saw a pair of layups from Mike Hall and a three-pointer from reserve guard Brian Arnold put the Lakers up 15 (48-33) with 10 minutes to play. GVSU would stretch its lead to 17 in the second half, before the Golden Knights cut the final deficit to 12 as the Lakers improved to 16-2 overall and 7-2 in GLIAC play with the 61-49 win. Gannon dropped to 6-11 overall and 2-7 in the GLIAC.
