Lakers Drop 134-109 Decision to Calvin College

The Grand Valley State University women's swimming and diving team fell to Calvin College 134-109 despite five first place finishes.

The Lakers started strong, sweeping the 1000-yard freestyle as Megan Hahler, Katie Lawrie and Nina Reynolds finished first, second and third, respectively.

Jenna Thayer added to the Lakers' effort winning the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 58.90. Thayer raced to clock a 4:41.02 to win the 400-yard IM. Alison VanKampen followed Thayer in the 400-yard IM, to finish third. Danielle Buglio also handed in a first place finish, clocking a 1:02.74 100-yard backstroke. Liz Rogers added a third place finish in the same event, finishing in 1:03.56.

Sam Stump recorded two second place finishes, clocking 55.82 in the 100-yard freestyle, and 2:00.23 in the 200-yard freestyle. Eli Leskovar followed Stump in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing third with a time of 2:00.35. Katie Lawrie also added a second place finish, racing to a 500-yard freestyle time of 5:23.36.

Alison VanKampen posted a third place finish in the 100-yard breastroke finishing in 1:10.09. Allison Scholz also handed in a third place finish, clocking a 25.50 50-yard freestyle.

The Laker relay teams boasted two second place finishes, as the 400-yard freestyle relay of Allison Scholz, Eli Leskovar, EB Phillips and Melissa Faletti raced to finish in 3:45.89. Danielle Buglio, Alison VanKampen, Jenna Thayer and Allison Scholz posted a time of 4:08.01 in the 400-yard medly relay to also place second.

The Lakers finished strong in the diving portion of the meet as Raelyn Prelewitz won the 3-meter dive, recording 255.2 points. She also handed in a second place finish in the 1-meter dive tallying 243.55 points. Jennifer Hillson posted 212.90 points in the 1-meter dive to finish third.
