Lakers Successful Against Calvin College

Results

The Lakers posted 11 first place finishes en route to a 179-62 victory against Calvin College.

The Laker diving team turned in outstanding performances sweeping the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Joel Overway won both events posting 277.65 points in the 1-meter, and 252.85 in the 3-meter. Evan Betts followed Overway in both events, posting 240.80 points and 250.15, respectively. Scott Klaasen finished third in the 1-meter (230.70 points) and fourth in the 3-meter (234.90). Ryan Smith recorded 207.90 points in the 1-meter, finishing fourth, and 237.15 in the 3-meter, finishing third.

The men swept the 100-yard backstroke, as Justin Vasquez, Paul Tansey and Rob Parker finished first, second and third, respectively. Ryan Kraai handed in a 10:28.96 1000-yard freestyle to win the event.

Matt Witkowski finished the 100-yard freestyle in 48.36 to win the event. Kyle Burgher raced to a time of 4:49.32 to win the 500-yard freestyle. He was followed by Aaron Phillippe who finished third with a time of 5:05.39.

Kyle Barrons took first place in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 53.77. Phil Watkins handed in a time of 54.67 to finish third.

Hans Hill won the 100-yard breastroke with a time of 1:01.89, while Jimmy Donahue finished in 1:05.54 to finish third.

Justin Barkel finished the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.36, to win the event. Kyle Burgher finished second, with a time of 1:49.13.

Ross Perry added a first place finish in the 400-yard IM, with a time of 4:26.02. Jimmy Donahue clocked a 4:32.69, finishing third.

Aaron Renton raced to a second place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, while Dan Kimble finished third.

The GVSU relay teams each handed in first place finishes, as Justin Vasquez, Justin Barkel, Kyle Barrons and Matt Witkowski finished the 400-yard medly relay in 3:36.06. Paul Tansey, Hans Hill, Phil Watkins and Aaron Renton earned a second place finish with a time of 3:42.07. Another first place finish was added by Justin Barkel, Dan Kimble, Justin Vasquez and Matt Witkowski, clocking a 3:14.06 400-yard freestyle relay. Aaron Renton, Ben Jylkka, Aaron Phillippe and Corey Fellows finished in 3:24.09, finishing second.
