Junior guard Erin Cyplik knocked down a school-record nine three-pointers and scored a career-high 29 points, helping #12 Grand Valley State to a 92-65 win at Northern Michigan Saturday afternoon. The Lakers improve to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC, while the Wildcats drop to 6-11 and 2-6.
The Lakers hot shooting from behind the three-point arc started early as four out of their first six made shots were three-pointers. Cyplik hit three out of the four and gave the Lakers a five point, 16-11, lead at the 13:45 mark. NMU came back to take a 23-20 lead, but senior guard Erika Ryskamp scored seven straight points to tie the game at 23-23. The Lakers took a 33-27 lead on a three-pointer by junior guard Crystal Zick and three more Laker three-pointers sparked a 13-3 run, giving GVSU a 46-32 halftime lead.
Grand Valley State pushed its lead out to 17 points on a jumper by senior center Julia Braseth at the 14:06 mark. The Lakers held onto a double-digit lead throughout the whole second half and increased it to as many as 28 points on a layup by freshman guard Carlie Holden with 1:59 left.

Junior guard Crystal Zick recorded 18 points, a season-high eight assists, and six rebounds, while senior guard Erika Ryskamp added 15 points, a season-high seven assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Senior guard Taushauna Churchwell posted nine points, five assists, and two steals and senior center Julia Braseth added eight points and three rebounds. Senior center Kari Witkowski had six points and two assists.
The Lakers made 16-of-26 three-pointers as a team, which also set a GVSU and GLIAC record. The previous Grand Valley State record was 13 three-pointers made against Aquinias College on Dec. 8, 1998. Three GLIAC teams had previously recorded 15 made three-pointers with the latest being Gannon vs. Mercyhurst on Feb. 23, 2004.
Grand Valley State will conclude its three-game road trip in a GLIAC crossover at Gannon on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The Lakers are sitting atop the GLIAC North Division with a 7-1 conference record, while the Golden Knights are a perfect 6-0 and leading the GLIAC South Division.
