Box Score

Romeoville, Ill. - The Grand Valley State Women's Soccer Team tallied a 7-0 victory Wednesday afternoon in Romeoville, Ill. against Lewis and improved to 4-0 on the year. The Lakers scored six second half goals for the second consecutive match and have outscored their opponents 29-0 on the year. Sophomore Katy Tafler and freshman Irie Dennis recorded two goals and an assist each. GVSU now travels to West Virginia to take on Charleston (Sept. 9) and Concord (Sept. 10).

Irie Dennis opened up the scoring 15 minutes into the match when she beat the Flyers keeper after a pass from Tafler to give Grand Valley an early 1-0 lead. The Lakers tallied 17 first half shots but were only able to sneak one into the goal.

Tafler and Dennis made sure that it would not be a 1-0 contest in the second half as Tafler scored two goals within a minute and a half of each other just six minutes into the second half. Freshman Katie Johnson and sophomore Meaghan Robinson assisted on Tafler's first goal and Dennis returned the favor with an assist on the sophomore forward's second goal. Dennis made it a four goal margin less than three minutes later when she notched her second goal of the match and her third of the season.

Senior Andi Redmond scored her first goal of the season at the 70 minute mark to give GVSU a 5-0 lead. Fellow seniors Katie Rozum and Erica Rose tallied back-to-back goals within a minute of each other to provide the final margin of 7-0. Johnson tallied her second assist of the day on Rozum's goal at the 87th minute. Senior Shannon Carrier recorded an assist on the final two goals to give her 90 career points, just 10 behind former Laker Jenny Swalec (100) and second place on the all-time list. Sophomore netminder Kristina Nasturzio recorded her second straight shutout, while seeing just three shots and none on goal.

The Lakers will travel to West Virginia this weekend to take on Charleston (Sept. 9) and Concord (Sept. 10).
