Lakers Knock Off Mercyhurst, 3-0

#2 Grand Valley State knocked off Mercyhurst College 3-0, (30-15, 30-26, 30-15) on Saturday afternoon. GVSU remains undefeated in the GLIAC with a perfect 9-0 record. The Lakers are now 16-1 overall and have won 16 straight matches. GVSU will travel to Ferris State on Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 and return home to host Wayne State on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. and #10 Hillsdale on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4:00 p.m.

Grand Valley dominated the first game, tallying 17 kills and a .375 hitting percentage. Mercyhurst gave GVSU a run in the second game, but Grand Valley pulled out the 30-26 win. GVSU ended the match as it hit .567 in the 30-15 game three victory.

Grand Valley State had defeated Mercyhurst all 12 times the two teams have met. GVSU has won 32 straight games against Mercyhurst and has won 36 out of 38 games all-time.

Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore posted a .579 hitting percentage, 12 kills, and four assisted blocks, while senior outside hitter Megan Helsen added 12 kills, six digs, while hitting .333. Sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander recorded nine kills, three assists, four digs, three assisted blocks, and hit .438 and freshman outside hitter Kaity Gormley tallied eight kills, two aces, two digs, and two assisted blocks. Junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple had six kills, two aces, three digs, and two assisted blocks, while sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore posted 42 assists, six digs, an ace, and two kills. Junior libero Alyson Riley had three service aces and eight digs for GVSU.
