#2 Grand Valley State swept Gannon, 3-0 (30-11, 30-27, 30-16) in a GLIAC crossover match on Friday night. The Lakers have won 15 straight matches and improve to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the GLIAC. GVSU will host Mercyhurst College on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 4:00 p.m. in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
Grand Valley came out strong hitting an amazing .600 as a team in the first game. The Lakers tallied 15 kills en route to their 30-11 game one win. Gannon played tough in game two, but GVSU posted 10 more kills (20-10) than the Golden Knights to win game two, 30-27. The Lakers sealed the match by hitting .390 and adding 20 more kills to post a 30-16 victory in game three.
GVSU hit .362 as a team, while Gannon hit just .045. The Lakers recorded 32 more kills, six more aces, and four more blocks than the Golden Knights.
Senior middle blocker Meghan Moore recorded 16 kills, five digs, and five assisted blocks, while hitting .323 on the night. Freshman outside hitter Kaity Gormley posted nine kills, a .368 hitting percentage, four aces, three digs, and an assisted block, while senior outside hitter Megan Helsen added nine kills and 14 digs, while hitting .381.
Junior middle blocker Erica Vandekopple had eight kills, two assisted blocks, and hit .615 and sophomore middle blocker Danielle Alexander recorded eight kills, three assists, two aces, three digs, and three assisted blocks, while hitting .500. Sophomore setter Jamie Ashmore tallied 32 assists, three kills, three digs, and two assisted blocks, while junior libero Alyson Riley added 14 digs.
