#2 GVSU Defeats Northern Michigan, 3-1

#2 Grand Valley State remains undefeated in the GLIAC as it tallied a 3-1 (29-31, 30-17, 30-20, 30-19) win over Northern Michigan Friday night. The Lakers have won 12 straight matches and improve to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC. GVSU will play at Michigan Tech on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1:00 p.m. and at Lake Superior State on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1:00 p.m.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first game and Northern Michigan picked up the 31-29 win. The Lakers got hot winning game two, 30-17. GVSU hit .344 to take game three, 30-20 and posted 18 kills and a .378 team hitting percentage in game four (30-19) to seal the match.

The Lakers posted 15 more kills than the Wildcats and recorded 10 service aces, while NMU had none. GVSU also tallied 17.0 total team blocks to just six by the Wildcats.

Leading the way for GVSU, was senior Meghan Moore who tallied 22 kills, a .410 hitting percentage, one solo and six assisted blocks. Senior Megan Helsen recorded 15 kills, three aces, 11 digs, two assisted blocks, while hitting .364. Junior Erica Vandekopple posted 12 kills, two aces, one solo and six assisted blocks, while sophomore Danielle Alexander added eight kills, one solo and eight assisted blocks. Sophomore Jamie Ashmore posted seven kills, 51 assists, four digs, and three assisted blocks and junior Alyson Riley had 14 digs and two aces.
