#2 Grand Valley State improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the GLIAC as it knocked off #23 Findlay, 3-1 (24-30, 30-24, 30-27, 30-26) on Friday night. The Lakers will travel to Ashland for a 2:00 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 16.
GVSU hit just .083 in game one as it dropped a 30-24 decision. The Lakers bounced back and hit .353 in the second game to take a 30-24 win. GVSU continued to play well and took the next two games, 30-27 and 30-26 to seal the GLIAC crossover win.
Grand Valley tallied 15.5 team blocks in the match, 7.5 more than Findlay. Seven different Lakers recorded a block in the match.
GVSU was led by senior Megan Helsen who posted a team-high 18 kills, nine digs, and two assisted blocks, while sophomore Danielle Alexander chipped in 13 kills and eight assisted blocks. Senior Meghan Moore tallied 12 kills and five assisted blocks and junior Erica Vandekopple added eight kills and tied her career-high with nine assisted blocks.
Junior Cortney Lokker recorded seven kills, a .462 hitting percentage, four digs, and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Jamie Ashmore tallied 51 assists, two aces, seven digs, and four assisted blocks, while junior Alyson Riley added 26 digs and a service ace.
