#14 Grand Valley State outscored Saginaw Valley by 15 points in the second half to tally a come from behind 66-58 win Wednesday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse. The Lakers improve to 23-3 overall and 16-1 in the GLIAC, while the Cardinals drop to 8-18 and 5-12. Grand Valley has won 12 straight games and will conclude the regular season at home against rival Ferris State on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m.
Saginaw Valley State opened the game by scoring the first five points and then took an 11-2 lead at the 17:04 mark. SVSU pushed the lead to 11 points (19-8) with 11:20 left in the first half, before GVSU went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to four points. A three-pointer by Erika Ryskamp with 6:54 remaining tied the game at 22-22. Saginaw Valley closed out the first half with a 12-5 run to take a 34-27 halftime lead.
The Cardinals shot 62.5% from the field in the first half, while the Lakers shot just 31.3%.
Grand Valley scored ten of the first 12 points in the second half to take its first lead of the game, 37-36. SVSU scored to go ahead by one point, 38-37, but GVSU regained the lead and pushed it to nine points (51-42) with 12:29 left in the game. Saginaw Valley cut the lead to four points at the 10:13 mark, but once again GVSU increased the lead to nine (56-47) with 8:02 remaining. The Cardinals hit a three-pointer to trail by just four points (60-56), but GVSU scored six straight points to take a 66-56 lead with 59 seconds left.
Grand Valley outrebounded Saginaw Valley by a 42-28 margin, including 21-8 on the offensive glass. GVSU scored 23 second chance points to SVSU's 10.
Junior center Julia Braseth tallied a career-high 25 points and tied her season-high with 14 rebounds. Junior guard Erika Ryskamp also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. The 10 assists tied her career-high. Sophomore guard Erin Cyplik posted 12 points and eight rebounds, while senior forward Niki Reams added eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
