#10 GVSU Drops 79-74 Decision

Erie, Pa. - #10 Grand Valley State dropped a 79-74 road decision at Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa. Saturday afternoon. Junior Jason Jamerson tallied a team-high 20 points, but it was not enough as GVSU fell to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in GLIAC play. The Lakers will have next week off for final exams before hosting Lewis in a non-conference tilt on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7 pm in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

The lead would change seven times in the opening 20 minutes as neither team could gain an advantage. GVSU led by as many as seven in the first half but were unable to hold onto the lead as Mercyhurst chipped away and took a 35-34 advantage into the break. Junior Jason Jamerson poured in 15 points in the first half, while Grand Valley was held to 38.7 percent shooting from the field.

Mercyhurst was able to open its lead to six early in the second half when Avi Fogel knocked down a three-pointer with 16:57 left to give Mercyhurst a 41-36 lead. GVSU battled back to take a two point lead at 59-57 after senior Dan Redder delivered a dunk with 7:40 to go. Mercyhurst took back the lead and would not relinquish it down the stretch. GVSU tied the game again with less than four minutes to play but the Lakers of Mercyhurst connected on two three-pointers and were 6-of-9 from the charity strip to seal the win.

Senior Mike Hall poured in 17 second half points in the loss for GVSU. Senior Dan Redder and Sophomore Pete Trammell tallied 13 and 12 points each. GVSU was done in by a barrage of threes from the host Lakers as Mercyhurst connected on 13 in the win and shot 52.0 percent from behind the arc.

Grand Valley will return to the hardwood on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7 pm when they host Lewis in a non-conference battle in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
