#10 Lakers Win 70-63 Over Ferris State

Allendale, Mich. - #10-ranked Grand Valley State forced 18 turnovers and turned them in to 24 points en route to a 70-63 GLIAC win over Ferris State, Thursday night in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in GLIAC play, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-4 on the year and 1-2 in the GLIAC. Senior Dan Redder tallied a career-high 22 points in the win. GVSU will now travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst College on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 pm.

The Lakers jumped out to an 18-9 advantage with 11:11 to play in the first half using an 8-0 run to fuel the lead. Senior Dan Redder capped off the run with a thunderous dunk after a feed from Junior Jason Jamerson. Ferris State cut the lead to three with back-to-back three-pointers by Julius Vines and Jessie York. Sophomore Pete Trammell answered the run with a four-point play when he knocked down a three from the top of the key and was fouled on the shot. Trammell, the Lakers leading free throw shooter, knocked down the freebie to give the Lakers a 22-15 lead with 8:58 to go in the half. Ferris State would cut it to two to end the half as the teams entered the break with the score at 31-29.

Ferris came out firing in the second half and tallied a pair of three-pointers to take the lead at 35-31 early in the half. A three-point play by Redder started another GVSU run that saw the Lakers reel off 12 unanswered points. Trammell registered four points in the run and senior Kyle Carhart drilled a three-pointer to give the Lakers an eight point lead. Redder would lengthen the lead to 10, GVSU's largest of the night, with 10:32 to go in the half with a layup after a pass from Trammell.

The Bulldogs would cut the 10-point Laker lead to one with less than five minutes to play. Junior Jason Jamerson knocked down a three-pointer and a pair of free throws in less than a minute to push the Laker lead to five. Ferris State's Terrance Shaw cut the lead to three with 35 seconds to play on a three-pointer from five feet behind the arc with a defender in his face. Shaw finished the game with a team-high 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Senior Mike Hall caught the inbounds pass following a Bulldog timeout and was immediately fouled by Ferris State's Julius Vines. Hall stepped to the charity stripe and knocked down a pair to ensure the victory. Redder and Trammell tallied a free throw apiece to give GVSU the 70-63 GLIAC win.

Redder tallied a career-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting in the win to lead the Lakers. Trammell poured in 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while connecting on a career-high six free throws. Junior PG L.J. Kilgore dished out a career-high seven assists on the night, including five in the opening half. The Lakers recorded eight steals on the night and forced the Bulldogs into 18 turnovers.

GVSU will now travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Mercyhurst College in a GLIAC bout set to tipoff at 3:00 pm and can be heard on GVSN.
