#8 Lakers Roll To 3-0 Victory Against #16 Quincy

Quincy, Ill. - The #8-ranked Grand Valley State Women's Soccer team opened up a critical regional weekend with a 3-0 road win against #16 Quincy Friday night. Sophomore Katy Tafler and freshman Irie Dennis tallied a goal and an assist each in the win. Quincy entered the contest atop the Great Lakes Regional rankings while the Lakers were #3. GVSU will take on SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 pm CT.

Senior Shannon Carrier put the Lakers on the scoreboard just before the end of the first half with her 12th goal of the season after a pass from Joyce Rose at the 37:23 mark. GVSU outshot the host Lady Hawks by a 10-3 margin in the first half, including 3-1 in shots on goal.

The Lakers came out firing on all cylinders in the second half as Irie Dennis made it a 2-0 contest less than six minutes into the half. Katy Tafler tallied her fifth assist of the year on Dennis' sixth goal of her freshman campaign. Tafler put the game out of reach six and a half minutes later with her 26th goal of the season when Dennis returned the favor and fed Tafler for the goal. Tafler's goal broke the Laker single-season record for goals scored. The previous record was 25 goals, achieved by Tafler during her freshman season a year ago.

Sophomore Kristina Nasturzio turned away two Quincy shots on the night to record her 11th shutout of the year and help the Lakers to improve to 13-1 on the year. GVSU will now travel to Edwardsville, Ill. to play the Cougars of SIU-Edwardsville on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1 pm CT.
