#4 GVSU Falls To #20 Mercyhurst 3-0

Erie, Pa. - The #4-ranked women's soccer team dropped its first decision of the season on Friday afternoon to #20-ranked Mercyhurst by a 3-0 margin. GVSU falls to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC, while Mercyhurst improves to 10-1 and 3-0 in GLIAC play. GVSU will wrap up its road trip on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 pm when it takes on Gannon.

Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Adrienne Sluga at the 25:46 mark after a pass from Sarah Powell. The goal marked the first time on the season that GVSU had trailed in a contest. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Mercyhurst at the half as both teams rattled off six shots in the opening stanza.

Powell struck with her first goal of the match less than two minutes into the second half to make it a 2-0 game. Powell would later add her second goal of the match at the 78:07 mark to provide the final dagger.

The match was just the second that Grand Valley had been shut out in over its past 16. The Lakers will look to rebound on Sunday at 1 pm when it takes on Gannon in Erie, Pa.
