#20 Grand Valley State jumped out to a 33-15 halftime lead and never looked back en route to a 66-43 GLIAC home win Monday (Jan. 23) night. GVSU improves to 15-3 overall and 7-2 in GLIAC action.
Sophomore guard Jason Jamerson hit three three-pointers and scored 11 points in the opening 7:23 to help the Lakers build a 16-4 lead. Junior center Dan Redder scored five straight points in a span of 2:28 late in the first half to give the Lakers their largest lead of the first half, 31-12. Gannon didn't reach double digits until the 6:58 mark of the opening stanza. Gannon shot just 28.6 percent in the opening half and turned the ball over 17 times.
The Lakers and Golden Knights traded points through the first 9:22 of the second half, but GVSU went on a 14-3 run over a span of 4:13 to build its largest lead of the game (66-37). The run was highlighted by three straight Callistus Eziukwu dunks and 11 points total by the 6-10 sophomore center. Jeff Grauzer hit a jumper and a free throw for the final points.
Callistus Eziukwu led GVSU with 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots, while Jason Jamerson added 15 points and six rebounds. Dan Redder added nine points, while freshmand Pete Trammell chipped in six points, four assists and two steals. Junior forward Mike Hall added five points, five rebounds and five steals. Gannon shot just 31.3 percent (15-48) from the floor and 55.0 percent from the charity stripe (11-20).
Aurimas Truskauskas led Gannon with 14 points and Shelby Chaney added 12 in the scoring column.
GVSU will return to action Thursday at Wayne State. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
