#14 Grand Valley Falls, 3-2, to #4 Minnesota-Duluth

#14-ranked Grand Valley State dropped a 3-2 (30-20, 14-30, 28-30, 30-19, 11-15) decision to #4 Minnesota Duluth Saturday. The Lakers finished the Amerihost GVSU Fall Classic with a 2-2 record and fall to 5-3 overall. GVSU will play three matches in the Ashland Invitational on Sept. 9-10.

Grand Valley started off strong, hitting .300 to pick up a 30-20 game one win. Minnesota-Duluth came back, however to take games two and three, 30-14, 30-28, respectively. GVSU tied the match up at a game apiece, winning game four, 30-19. UMD pulled out the win with a 15-11 game five victory.

Both teams struggled on offense, as GVSU hit .155 and UMD .112. However, the teams combined for 28 total blocks.

Senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk led the Lakers with 15 kills, a .321 attack percentage, two solo and five assisted blocks. Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen posted 14 kills, 17 digs, and five assisted blocks, while junior middle blocker Meghan Moore also added 14 kills and seven assisted blocks, while hitting for .357. Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore recorded 28 assists and eight digs, while freshman Megan Walling had 23 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore Alyson Riley led GVSU with 25 digs.
