#12 Grand Valley State dropped a 3-1 (30-23, 30-17, 30-25, 30-26) decision on Friday night to GLIAC South Division opponent Findlay. The Lakers fall to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC, while Findlay improves to 9-6 and 2-2. GVSU will host Ashland in another GLIAC contest on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 4:00 p.m.
Grand Valley started the match on a hot streak as they hit .351 to take game one, 30-23. The Oilers came back, however, with a 30-17 game two win. Findlay sealed the match with 30-25 and 30-26 wins in games three and four. Neither team hit well, as GVSU posted a .137 team hitting percentage and Findlay hit just .196. Findlay recorded 12 team blocks and six service aces, while the Lakers posted six blocks and four aces.
Senior middle blocker Lauren Hanson led the Lakers, recording 12 kills, a .391 hitting percentage, and three assisted blocks. Junior outside hitter Megan Helsen had 11 kills and eights digs, while senior middle blocker Tracy Kirk added 10 kills and a .364 attack percentage. Meghan Moore posted seven kills, one solo, and four assisted blocks.
Sophomore Alyson Riley tallied a team-high 22 digs. Redshirt freshman Jamie Ashmore had 24 assists and nine digs, while freshman Kelly Hogan added 13 assists and three digs.
