Lakers Claim 29-13 Victory At Indianapolis

Indianapolis, Ind. - #2 Grand Valley State used three field goals from Scott Greene and a Joe Ballard 50 yard interception return for a TD in the second quarter to claim a 29-13 victory over Indianapolis. GVSU improved to 3-0 overall and in the GLIAC.

The Lakers' Scott Greene kicked two first quarter field goals, the first from 35 yards and the second from 38 yards to give the Lakers a 6-0 lead. Indy answered with two field goals of their own, but the Greene hit on a 22 yarder to give GVSU the lead for good at 9-6. Ballard picked off a Casey Gillin pass and returned it 50 yards for a TD with 43 seconds left in the first half to give GVSU a 15-6 lead.

The Lakers opened the second half with a six-play, 73 yard drive that Astin Martin finished with a 20 yard TD run and Eric Fowler hauled in a seven yard pass from Jeff Dock for a TD to give GVSU a 29-6 lead early in the fourth quarter. Indianapolis added a late TD for the final score.

Martin recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game with 136 yards and one TD on 22 carries. Cullen Finnerty completed 9-of-18 passes for 140 yards, while Jeff Dock completed 4-of-5 for 51 yards and a TD. WR Eric Fowler hauled in five passes for 74 yards and TD.

Grand Valley State will visit Ashland next Saturday (Sept. 17) for a 7 p.m. game at Community Stadium.
