Lakers Open Season With 3-0 Win Over Quincy

Allendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley Women's Soccer team opened the 2005 campaign with a 3-0 victory against Quincy. Freshman Katy Tafler tallied two goals on four shots. Freshman Kristina Nasturzio recorded her first win and shutout of her college career. Senior Jenny Swalec tallied a goal and an assist on the day. The Lakers return to action Sunday, August 28 at 1:00 pm against the University of Southern Indiana.

Swalec netted the 29th goal of her career minutes before the end of the first half. Freshman Megan McCarthy assisted on the goal for her first point as a Laker. The Lakers opened up the scoring in the second half with two Katy Tafler goals to up the lead to three goals. Andi Redmond assisted on Tafler's first goal 12 minutes into the second half.  Tafler struck again just six minutes later on Swalec's assist.

The Lakers outshot the Hawks 21-3 on the day en route to the 3-0 victory.  Kristina Nasturzio recorded two saves on the afternoon for Grand Valley. The Lakers return to action Sunday, August 28 at 1:00 pm against the University of Southern Indiana.  Ferris State battles Quincy University at 11:00 am in the opener.
