Grand Valley State defeated Southern Indiana, 5-1, in the first round of the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional Championship held in Big Rapids, Mich. The regional appearance is the third straight for the Lakers, who will play Ferris State on Friday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. in the regional championship match.

GVSU took a commanding 3-0 lead as they swept all three doubles matches and then won two out of the three singles matches played. Emily Zellner and Alison Koopsen defeated Sara Wihoite and Ashley Rees, 8-5, in the #1 doubles slot, while Marie Cameron and Arcelia Gomez won, 8-5, over Audra Bartelt and Maggie Coffman at #2 doubles. Jenna Killips and Natalie Pallett beat Kalie Ackerman and Reilly Ackerman, 8-4, in the #3 doubles slot.

Emily Zellner picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cassy Froderman in #5 singles action, while Natalie Pallett won 6-0, 6-1 against Maggie Coffman. The lone Laker loss came in the #3 singles slot, where Reilly Ackerman defeated Arcelia Gomez, 6-3, 6-1.
