Box Score

Grand Valley State shutout Aquinas College on Wednesday afternoon, winning game one, 1-0 in nine innings, and game two, 8-0 in six innings. The Lakers improve to 18-16 overall and will play two key GLIAC doubleheaders this weekend. GVSU will host Ashland University on Friday, April 22 at 3:00 p.m. and Findlay on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.

Game one was a pitcher's dual as neither team scored after eight innings of action. If the game is tied after the regulation seven innings, each team places the runner who got the last out in the previous inning on second base. In the bottom of the ninth, GVSU placed junior center fielder Tara Marsh on second base and she was knocked in to score the game's lone run on a double to left field by senior shortstop Sarah Paape.

Junior Kristin Jenner started the game for the Lakers, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings. She allowed three hits and walked three, while striking out three. Freshman Stephanie Cole threw the final 4.0 innings. She didn't give up a hit and struck out four.

Freshman second baseman Kristin Moleski tallied two of the Lakers five hits.

Grand Valley came out strong on the second game, scoring a run in four of the six innings. Paape put the first run on the board with a one out home run to center field. GVSU posted two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Jandin Armstrong walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an one out single by Marsh. Paape reached on a fielder's choice in which all three runners were save to load the bases. The first run scored on a passed ball, while the second was brought in on a sacrifice fly to left field by sophomore first baseman Crista Buresh.

The Lakers added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Marsh led off the inning with a single to center field. Paape was hit by a pitch and both runs scored on a triple by Buresh. Buresh crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly hit to center field by junior third baseman Denise Ireton. Pinch hitter Lisa Preuss singled to left field and was knocked in an Armstrong single.

Grand Valley scored the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the 8-0 win. Redshirt freshman Amanda Brown singled up the middle with one out and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Ireton singled to center field to bring in the final run and end the game.

Sophomore Allison Crews pitched the first five innings, recording her sixth win of the season. She allowed just three hits and one walk and struck out one. Cole finished the game, throwing 1.0 inning.

GVSU tallied 10 hits in the game and was lead by Marsh who was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Armstrong who went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI. Eight different Lakers scored a hit in the game.
