#10 Grand Valley State dominated in all facets of the game en route to an impressive 84-46 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside Friday night (Dec. 30) in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improved to 11-2 overall and won for the eighth straight time.
GVSU led by just one point (15-14) at the 9:43 mark of the first half, but nine straight points by sophomore guard Crystal Zick fueled a 27-7 scoring run for the Lakers to close the first half and gave GVSU a 42-21 lead at the half. The second half was much of the same as the Lakers maintained a lead of 21 points or more for the final 15:32. Grand Valley State led by 38 points three times in the second half.
Senior forward Niki Reams and sophomore guard Crystal Zick led the Lakers with 16 point apiece, while junior center Julia Braseth added 15 in the scoring column. Reams added seven rebounds and seven assists, while Zick dished out five assists. Junior guard Erika Ryskamp chipped in eight points and Erin Cyplik seven. GVSU received 22 points from its bench, highlighted by freshman guard Jenny Steffen's six. Dawn Maynard scored four points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists.
As a team, GVSU shot 50.0 percent from the floor (32-64) and outrebounded UWP 45-30. In addition, the Lakers dished out 25 assists and turned the ball over just 10 times. GVSU scored 36 points in the paint.
Grand Valley State will return to action Thursday, Jan. 5 at Michigan Tech for a GLIAC matchup.
