#10 Lakers Claim 60-39 Victory Over #11 Valdosta State

Honolulu, Hawaii - Grand Valley State senior forward Niki Reams led the #10 Lakers to a 60-39 victory over #11 Valdosta State Tuesday evening with 27 points and 12 rebounds in the 2005 Hoop 'N Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. GVSU improves to 9-2 with the victory and will play Dominican Wednesday at 1 p.m. (PST).

Valdosta State scored the first bucket of the game, but GVSU took control from that point on and built a 33-18 halftime lead. GVSU shot 52.2 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, while the Blazers connected on just 28.6 percent from the floor. VSU cut the Laker lead down to nine early in the second half, but a three-pointer by Erika Ryskamp and a Niki Reams three-point play boosted the Laker lead back to 15. GVSU hit its free throws in the final minutes to build a 21 point advantage.

Reams led GVSU with a double-double (27 points, 12 rebounds), while sophomore guard Crystal Zick added 12 points. Erika Ryskamp chipped in eight, Julia Braseth six and Erin Cyplik five. GVSU converted 19-of-24 free throws and outrebounded VSU 34-32.
