GVSU Rolls To 77-52 Victory

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State improved to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the GLIAC with a 77-52 victory against Mercyhurst. Sophomore center Callistus Eziukwu scored 19 points for GVSU while shooting a perfect 7-of-7 from the field. Grand Valley shot a season-high 65.9 percent (29-44) from the field for the game. The Lakers will host Indianapolis (Dec. 17) and Northern Kentucky (Dec. 20) before the Christmas holiday.

Mercyhurst jumped out to a 14-8 lead less than five minutes into the contest before Grand Valley turned it on. Over the next 13 minutes GVSU outscored Mercyhurst 20-0, thanks to five layups and seven points from Eziukwu. GVSU entered the half with a 35-24 lead.

Grand Valley came out firing in the second half shooting 81.0 percent (17-21) from the field. GVSU opened the half with a 15-1 run that was capped off when Eziukwu converted on a layup at the 14:31 mark. Grand Valley converted 20 Mercyhurst turnovers into 29 points on the day. The GVSU bench outscored the Mercyhurst bench 36-12. Junior center Dan Redder added 12 points off the bench for Grand Valley.

Eziukwu finished the day with 19 points, six assists, and seven steals. Redshirt freshman guard Pete Trammell poured in 12 points on 5-of-7 (71.4) shooting and pulled down six rebounds. GVSU dished out 24 assists on 29 field goals.
