Lakers Defeat Valparaiso 71-59 in Exhibition Game

Grand Valley State defeated Valparaiso, 71-59, in an exhibition game on Saturday. The Lakers will play at Michigan State for their final exhibtion game on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m.

Valparaiso jumped out to an early seven point lead as they made eight of their first 11 shots. GVSU came back and went on a 14-2 run to take a 36-21 lead. Grand Valley never trailed in the game again and took a 41-30 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Crusaders cut the lead to seven to start the second half, but GVSU pushed it back to 15 with nine minutes left in the game.

The Lakers presence on the boards was the key to the game as they outrebounded the Crusaders, 49-25. Eighteen of the rebounds were offensive, leading to 20 second chance points.

Senior forward Niki Reams led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. Junior guard Erika Ryskamp added 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore guard Erin Cyplik posted 11 points and eight rebounds.

Junior forward Julia Braseth recorded nine points and six rebounds and sophomore center Rachael Willett tallied eight points and two boards.
